So sorry to read that a couple of your plants are in trouble. I recall reading some time ago on another forum of a method of suspending such a plant in a shaded, airy place without soil or water to allow healing to take place. This is similar to the practice of some growers suspending the plants in air after (sometimes severe) root pruning. I hope your experiment succeeds.

I am trying that with another one- but 2 looked pretty hopeless. I had been watering in the evenings as it is blazing hot out and hadn't noticed....

Hi Ted!

You can still try something, just of kicks and giggles. Cut off all the mushy root parts of your remaining plant stock and put it about a centimeter in some dry medium, like pumice or perlite. I've seen at least one person on the web doing this in order to produce roots along the circumference of his cut line. He was working with a healthy plant, though. But it might work with your distressed plant as well! At this point, at least, it couldn't hurt.
