Kirk, we will never fully understand why they start to rot at this time of the year, when cold weather not quite here yet.

Each and everyone of us have this problem at some point. Just think of this way. They rot now is better than when they get bigger.

I have about 5 of this particular kind left. I hope they don't start to rot as well. I'm keeping a close eye on them now. The bigger one I went ahead and shaved off the very bottom and dipped in rooting powder. Going to let it callus over a few days and try to root. The other I'm going to attempt to graft onto an older adenium and hope it takes where I can later take it off and root it when it's more developed.

Sorry about your seedlings. I have lost quite a few myself this summer. Just today I was wondering out loud where did all my seedlings go? I have ordered a lot of seeds and they grow for awhile the they are gone. As long as my big ones grow ,I'm happy. Did lose a few of those in the spring. Fingers crossed for your remaining ones.

Kirk, I have had this exact thing happen and I am not sure why?
Wondered when I saw it if it is from too much water, lack ?
They speak of one problem with Adenium seedlings. It is called 'collar rot' and they start rotting at the soil surface.
I lost a bunch of my Pachypodium seedlings from this and I am sure it was not over watering.

I imagine this is something we will all encounter if we raise them long enough or a lot of them.

Guess since it's my first seedlings to possibly lose is making it sting a little more than it should really bother me. I'm chalking it up to some random thing that just happened. I haven't done anything to change the routine.

I kind of wondered at first if it was something parasitic. Our weather is still hot and humid and I've been keeping an eye on the soil as to not over water. I'm just scratching my head on this one.

That sucks, Kirk. But on the other hand, the less resistant of your seedlings are being weeded out and in the end you will be left with the best and strongest ones.
