I honestly don't know some people say wait till it flowers, some say "pinch (chop its head off)" it to promote some branching. My pinching experience for my younger ones hasn't been to overwhelming. My larger one I've got probably 20 new branches from 7 clips. Some people have gotten great results from pinching younger ones though on here.

Make sure that pot drains water good! I used the same exact pot and lost a cilantro and almost lost an aloe due to poor water drainage. I was using the gritty mix so it took me forever to figure out it was constantly water logged. I pulled the aloe up and the whole root system was rotted out. I replanted and its doing great now. Just something to look out for if you just got that pot!

I would say it may depend on what climate you live in?
If you are in a hot climate and can expect more growing time, then you could prune if preferred.
If you live in a shorter growing season such as myself, I would leave till early next summer and prune or not.
Pruning should take place while in active growth.
