I have left without putting anything on them, but I like the cut to be at a 45 degree angle.
Have used the Elmer"s waterproof glue also and it works tremendously.

Looks as though it will be a couple days since pruning and you getting this info.
I would just leave them as they are. It they where outside and fresh cuts, then you could paint with glue.
