I am not sure how maliable the roots become when left to soften for a time.

It would be worth sending a photo through to NRSundaram via Facebook or
Jalandar Reddy also on Facebook or he is at Adeniumsindia.com.
They hang plants for up to a month and are very well versed on manipulating and the pruning of large 'haddock' roots.
They are wonderful and most knowledgeable.

Either way, if yo are to prune you would need to let air dry for a short period of time.
Worth a check. Especially with such a beautiful plant.
