yes pure perlite after reading the posts here and learnt. I find this gardenweb forum is very good and love the pictures of all.

Yes - I think you are on a right path. Our regular mix with peat moss will deteriorate in the heat very soon. A good friend of mine in Florida grows his violets in a mix of perlite vermiculite and smallest cubes of a rock wool - to avoid peat moss.

MMM - there are so many things you can grow outside... gesneriads, orchids,,,

(giggle) actually I am envious of you all who can grow those plants which thrive in cool weather. Here the temperature is 86F . The consolation is my moth orchids thrive well here. Roses flowers size are small and color fades very fast .

Denver is actually not that great for humidity loving plants. It is snow outside right now - and in summer we have it pretty hot - which is OK - but desert dry. So we cannot really grow anything gesneriad/orchid outside. But we have beautiful roses 4 months in a year.
