Saintpaulia 5h ionantha subsp. velutina (species) Single light to dark purple, paler color on petal edges, 2-6 per peduncle, rarely 10. Leaves oval to nearly round, dark green above, usually purple beneath, edges sharply toothed, upper surface densely covered with erect hairs, may also have sparse long hairs. Standard rosette.
I love the look of this species violet. The underside of the leaves is so dark that it shows through the top of the leaf, emphasizing the veining of the leaf. The flowers on mine are dark purple, and very dainty. This species was used to hybridize some of the wasp type flowers.
