White 'dust' on propogated AV leaves

While repotting my violets a few months ago, I broke some leaves accidentally and decided to stick em in a cup with foil over the top so that only the stems dangle in water. Now it's been a few months and I haven't transplanted them yet. They've got some nice roots and are probably ready for some real soil, but I have yet to go to the store for some AV soil and perlite. Plus, I wasn't sure exactly when to transplant them. Some sources said to wait until itty bitty leaves started growing around the roots but this hasn't happened yet. I was looking at the leaves a few days ago and I saw this white "dust" on the leaves. I know its not actually dust, so is it rot? They're sitting in water, but so far this dust isn't affecting them. It's been about a week or so.

you got Powdery Mildew. I think out of everything available - you can spray them with Lysol. I would say that the earlier you repot them into the soil - the better - and if you are still not sure what to use - you can get Jiffy pellets, reconstitute them, fluff them up - and use for your leaves. Be sure to keep them in a baggie or covered with some transparent plastic lid after replanting and do not press the soil too hard.

It is not a permanent soil for the violets, but it is OK for starting. Keep the soil moist, but not wet.

Good Luck

It comes off a little when I blow hard on it. Upon closer inspection with a 10x magnifing glass, they look like fine little hairs curled amongst the hairs on the leaves. Will try the Lysol and am planning to run to Home Depot by Friday. Thanks!
