What variety of AV is this?

I bought it for my wife for Mother's Day last year. After her "taking care" of it for a few weeks when it almost died, I took it back over and it has risen back to a quite healthy nice looking plant. =) I think it was labeled when I bought it, but since then the variety has rubbed off with about half of the rest of the label. Any ideas? Thanks! - Steve

Great job - it's beautiful! Is any part of the label legible? Even words with missing letters might provide a clue. Does it have a greenhouse name? Some growers put photos of their varieties on their websites so buyers can find out which one they have.

There are thousands of similar violets with very subtle differences, which can make accurately ID-ing one without a label almost impossible. You may just have to enjoy it as a NOID (No IDentification).

Hi Steve,
One of the best ways to determine the name is to know where you got the plant. If it was from a show you might check with the club to see if anyone there brought it in. It almost looks to me like an Optimara. You might try emailing them to see if they can identify it for you providing you got the plant in a place like home depot or a supermarket. If you do that I would suggest that you take another picture showing the entire plant.

Thanks y'all for the tips. =) I bought it from a local small nursery. I may go back there & ask them or see if they know/remember what variety it is.

Steve -

if the sticker had OPTIMARA on it - it could be Optimara Colorado. Or one of 20 raspberry red optimars.
Most of the plants you can buy in a store come from 2 big nurseries - Holtkamp greenhouses (optimaras) and Harster's greenhouses in Canada (anthoflores).

I.
