From what I've read online, most often AVs sucker excessively (especially when they are young) because of their genetics, but that doesn't seem to be the issue here. They will also sucker as a survival response to stress or disbudding. For example, if you have applied chemicals, over-fertilized, not watered consistently or used "bad" water (such as from a water softener which may be too salty for them), or if the AVs have been subjected to temperature extremes, the plants may have reacted to the stress by suckering.

If you read the history of miniatures and semi miniatures, you will see they originally came from trailers. Naturally trailers tend to sucker. I guess the closer they are to the original trailer, the more they will sucker.

Rob's says his plants sucker until they become mature.

Take advantage of the suckers and put down as many as you can.
