Astro

I rec'd a plant in July last year that had "Astro" written on the cup. It was planted in a 2 inch pot. I kept it there for a few weeks, fed it Dyna Bloom and it bloomed in August 08.

In November, I moved it to a 4 in pot, thinking that it was a standard and wanted to see if it would help the leaves to not grown downward and since then, the diameter of the plant has reached 11 inches and some of the leaves are the size of my palm.

The leaves are ruffly around edges and variagated. The bloom is light pink with green edges and ruffles.
I can't find it anywhere in any of the databases.

I can't decide if it was labeled incorrectly or if this is a non registered plant or something that the violet lady was working on.

Here's one pic:

Any ideas?

RE: Astro

I did a search on FC2 for anything with the word "Astro" in it, and none of them are variegated... So I'd say it was prolly given a wrong name somewhere along the line and just got "stuck" with it. Very nice plant tho, great variegation!

RE: Astro

Could be ....

I also got 3 things from her that are not registered with AVSA but are registered with the DAVS and this woman was a hybridizer so there's no tellin` what I have in my treasure chest from her that is unknown.

This bloom is very strange as it changes color once it gets open. It starts out that pink with a brownish/moss/green edge (as pictured) and then the strange color changes to a chartreuse within 24 hours of opening all the way. It's done it through 2 bloom cycles and it's most entertaining and delightful :)

RE: Astro

Could it be the Astro that's listed on the blossoms, birds, and butterflies website?
Astro (Croteau) Large, purple sdbl. stars flecked with blue fantasy dots, spotted with occasional pink puffls. Dark TL variegated foliage. (User Database)

Here is a link that might be useful: BB&B A-B

Dora -

Do you have a picture of the bloom when it's all the way open and the color changed? That might help narrow down the possible name . . . the leaves remind me of the Buckeye series, but the bloom almost looks like a chimera.

RE: Astro

larius,
It is definitely not that...my flower has no blue in it at all.

@nicholejean - I suspect it will bloom in the next 3 - 5 weeks and I'll have a flower pic that is full open.
