Lysol disinfectant spray is usually ok to get on leaves (always do a small check first!) and can help get rid of powdery mildew if it hasn't progressed too far. Don't drench the leaves, but use a light misting. Remember, always test a leaf of each plant prior to using it on the whole plant! Better safe than sorry.

I have used it on soil - with mixed results. I think it is more the growing conditions though that make it hard to control. After I moved my av's from the windowsill (blocked by curtains) to an open shelf, the problem mostly disappeared....

Sad-funny anecdote: Once I had so much white fungus on the soil that instead of spraying Lysol disinfectant onto the surface I decided to spray it into a cup and drench the soil until it flowed out the drain holes... Next morning all the leaves had grown limp like cooked spaghetti and the plant eventually ascended to AV heaven. I don't know what I was thinking!

If that should happen again, I wonder if it would be possible to scrape off the soil and replace it. I think I have done that in the past, crossed my fingers, it seemed to work ...

White fungus on the soil surface doesn;'t hurt anything, If you get Promix with mycorrhyzae - something like this showes up and is supposed to be beneficial. Scraping and replacing the top the soil is probably the only thing that easy and harmless.
