This was one of my first violets when I started about a year ago. It blooms like crazy. It's just as good as more recent hybrids even though it's about 50 years old!

If I keep it happy, then I have something to look forward to!

Thank you! I use a Nikon CoolPix P2 digital camera. I've had it for several years now and am hoping to upgrade to one that takes outstanding macros.

Wow you are correct it was registered in 1960. Looks like a good vitnage variety.

If you're interested in vintage violets, also check out Chanticleer. I believe it was hybridized in 1963, and it is a fantastic variety as well. It has the old fashioned droopy leaves, not the stiff leaves like Double Black Cherry. Here is an old photo of mine:

I wonder if Double Black Cherry could be a bit like Bob Serbin in that some plants are nicer than others? I had it and it just didn't do much for me. I forget all the details but it bloomed - that wasn't the problem.

(My Bob Serbin looked like a shrub with brownish-toned blossoms when it wasn't under lights. Under lights, the shrub was a bit more red. My husband liked it.)

Funny Diana, my Bob Serbin just sits there like a lump- no growth, no blooms, no bugs. I think I'm going to throw it out....there must be something wrong with it.
