Cutting back?

I have one violet that developes new leaves and flowers on the same stems. In other words, the flowers don't just dry up after blooming producing a stem that just pulls away later, but the flowers dry up and I still have the tiny but well developed leaves left on the end of the sturdy stem. Do I cut these stems away after the flowers die back? If so, where do I make the cuts? Thanks.

Hi Miss Linda,

You can cut away the stem entirely and trash it or you can grow a new violet from it! I put in a link with photos showing how to do that. Some violets that won't grow true from a leaf will do so from a sucker or blossom stem. I'm trying that for the first time right now myself and the stem is growing little roots.
