I am having trouble finding vermiculite in my area. I have checked all the major box stores and even my favorite little nursery doesn't have it. Do ya'll buy it from a plant center?

In Canada we get it in hardware stores. I would think if you have a Walmart, you could find it there or any place that sells plants. Nancy

I bought mine at a store called Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH). It's a hardware store with a plants department. I got African Violet potting soil and Perlite there too.

Here they have it at both Lowe's and Home Depot.

Thanks for the thoughts. It must just be this area. I'll have to look around a bit more. Yesterday I did find a mixture of 50/50 peat moss/perlite, but it also had lyme in it, and I figured that probably wouldn't be a good idea. Oh, well.

Hi - KC - check the AV vendors in your area. If your collection is not that huge - may be you just order some premixed soil? It is correct to add some dolomite to the AV mix to offset the acidity of peat. The question is = who knows how much did they add. Normally the PH of the mix should be about 6.8 plus -minus. Good luck Irina

I had the same problem here in south FL. Finally found it at HD, but the quantity was way more than I needed and no place to store something that large. I checked Ebay and found just the amount online that I needed. More expensive than the huge bag at the box store, but since it was just a small amount, it was very reasonable. girlsaylor

Thanks all. I found it at Lowe's this weekend. I have never seen it there before--so either I wasn't looking in the right place or it is a recent addition. I was so excited I repotted all my violets this weekend. lol It was definitely time...

It's only available seasonally here in New Hampshire. I have ordered through amazon.com in the winter.
