No you have a gloxinia...a relative of the African Violet. I love the flowers on these plants. They are a gesneriads. Their care is similar to an African Violet. I used to grow lots of these from seed to sell. They were very popular in my small town.

This plant is called Sinningia speciosa and it is traditionaly sold under the name of florist gloxinia. It is a relative of AV - it belongs to the family of Gesneriads, but comes not from Africa - but from South America - I think Brazil.

It requires a bit more light and it has an underground tuber. After it finished blooming and the leaves go into decline- you stop watering, remove the foliage and let it rest. It will send a new shoot - and at that point you can repot it in a fresh soil. I usually chuck the dried pot and extract the tuber, put it in a ziplock baggie with humid sphagnum moss or vermiculite - bag keeps it from drying to crisp - and in a month or 2 it sends new shoots.
