Epsom salt will provide you with microelement Magnesium. Add 1/4 of a teaspoon per gallon of water every so often on the top of 1/4 of a teaspoon of carefully selected commercial fertilizer - Optimara makes good one, Peters Specialty African Violets is passable, DynaGro is very good, Plant Marvel - you can order from them - has no urea fertilizer.

I have never used epsom salts on my av's. I just use a commercial fertilizer without urea. I like Peters speciality and dyna gro. I also cut down on the fertilizer to half of the recommended amount because I wick water.

In my experience DynaGro - you can use 1/4 teaspoon, and Peters - 1/8th - because DynaGro numbers are lower. But - it is so much depends on the humidity - in a basement - where it is cooler and humidity is 50-60 - 1/4 of a teaspoon works better than on a main floor where the humidity...outside it can be single digits. I wrapped part of my upstairs shelving unit in Seran wrap to preserve the humidity around the plants sitting on the trays awith mats - and I still see a bit of yellow crystals on the young plants.

So there is a lot of fine tuning.
