Anyone know of websites where I can get some unique AV leaves? Where I live, all you can find are the typical colors and varieties. Also, while I have your attention...when I start plants from my own leaves, what are your opinions on needing or not needing a growth hormone. They seem to be doing really well without, but am I wasting my time? Thanks!

I never use a growth hormone and I have great success with leaves. Seems like a needless expense to me.

Hi Stephanie, If you are looking for unusual leaves to start plants look in ebay for hybrids by David Senk. He has put out some of the weirdest AV's I have ever seen. Other than that, check the vendor sites at AVSA.org. Follow the link to see a few Senk hybrids. The use of rooting hromone generally produces a multitude of roots but it takes longer to push up plantlets using it. I never use a rooting hormone. Fred in NJ

Stephanie - I've found some great deals on ebay for leaf sets. My last purchase was for 10 varieties, 2-3 leaves from each variety, and the seller threw in 2-3 leaves each of 3 MORE varieties just for the heck of it. I've got AV babies coming out my ears!

If you are joining AVSA for the first time, you can get 10 leaves free from Buckeye Violets in Ohio. Details on her web site.
