My neighbor is a lovely older lady with an incredibly green thumb. She invited me in for a cuppa and I was telling her about my new found infatuation with AVs and she grabbed me by the hand to take me to her guest room where she has the biggest AV I have ever seen in my life. It has got to be 14 - 16 inches across. Not only that, it seems to have a sport/sucker that she said blooms a different color purple from the rest of the plant. It also has smaller darker and more crinkley foliage.

How coommon is it for AVs to sport? My background is mostly hostas and it is not at all unusual for them to sport.

When the sport blooms again I will get pictures, but for now here is the original plant.... You can see the sport at about 10 o'clock
