Help AV stem rot very close to lrg crown

I inherited my AV's about 1 year ago from my Mother-in-law right before my wedding. They have been in good condition throughout the year but no blooming. Today I was going to fertilize with watering when I noticed that the stem where it connects to the very full and large crown has almost completely rotted away except for a few strands holding it together. The crown's leaves still look very green, firm, and healthy. Not sure what to do to salvage the plant. Do I replant the crown by cutting back a few leaves and root???? Also what do with the stalk in the pot...this is a very well established plant. I would hate to lose it. Please any suggestions will be appreciated. Ps- I'm novice AV'er please be specific. Thank you Krystal

I have pictures. Can I post them on here somehow ???
