I use nylon string. Depending on the size of the pot will determine the number of wicking strings I put in the pot.

I use some acrylic yarn I picked up at a thrift store. I wind some around my hand and then wash it with dish soap, squeezing the suds thru it. It removes the sizing. I haven't had any problems with it drying out as long as there is water in the reservoir.

Thanks, I'll try nylon or acrylic and wash it first. I'm using four inch pots, how many yarn strings should I put?

I came on here to ask about this a while back. I ended up getting acrylic worsted yarn (only place I found it was at Jo Ann Fabrics). It was white, 4-ply. For minis and semis, I divide it into 2 plys and just use one 2-ply strand per pot. It has been at least a month, if not longer... everything is going fine with them.
