You can pinch them off if you can easily get your fingers under the leaves without breaking a leaf. Or you can use a small scissor to cut them off. Some say that if you leave a short stub it helps prevent suckering.

I usually use a tweezer to safely pluck them without pulling the plant out of the pot or breaking leaves.

That's a great question. I thought one had to make sure there was no stub because I read that when removing leaves you should take it off cleanly back to the main stem to prevent rot and disease. I thought therefore the same would apply to the bloom stem. No?

I always pinched them. My mom had about 50 of them and tha was my job.
