Hi Dina,
Most AV's are killed by overwatering. I suspect that may be the case with you. Depending on where you bought your AV the soil may have been too heavy and held too much water, that si why I repot my plants into a light mix ASAP. Check the AVSA site for groing tips, once you have found out how to grow you will be hooked on Americas favorite houseplant.

I water wick my violets. I find it much easier than the other way for me anyway. I mix 1/4 teaspoon of Peters African violet fertilizer in a gallon of water..and pour it into a clear bottom container. I also have some in a small spray bottle and give them a water spray everyday.. and a warm bath to clean the leaves once a week if needed. We live in an apartment so don't have room for as many violets as I would like. Sure can get addicted to them!

To your original question about using up the bottle of fertilizer.....I see no reason you can't use it on any of your houseplants, especially ones that bloom. The middle number is higher than the rest to address bloom. If your houseplants are for foliage only, you can use it on blooming plants outside. It's not high enough in nitrogen to burn.

Or, you could change your mind and try again!
