Yup, a "dropper" is pretty self-explanitory--as you found out :-D

Some violet descriptions you'll see "sticktite".. That's the opposite of "dropper"--Altho the term isn't used quite as much these days since hybridizers usually just have sticktite as a criterea before they register in the first place.

I grow a few species and most of them do drop. Some like S.grandifolia 299 seem to hold on a bit longer for me. Just don't be discouraged by species that drop their bloosoms if you exhibit them in a show, judges understand what has happened because it does that to all of us. Even many of the old single plants drop their blossoms but we exhibit them anyway because they are part of our heritage.

Also if you show a dropper, I've heard some naughty little "tips & tricks" from a couple people that you can "glue" droppers back on very carefully with egg whites.

Don't tell anyone I told you! ;-)

And if you get caught, you will forever be suspect to judges.........

I'd like to clarify a previous posting. By 'tips and tricks' I don't think m3rmald is suggesting they are to be used when showing plants. They were actually things that people had done as a way of basically cheating and trying to present a plant better than it actually was.

And for Pete's sake, don't do it!!
