It's a semi-double. Violet flowers come in single, semi-double and double. So yours is not unusual but very pretty!

ah - okay thx! wasn't sure what the deal was. thought maybe I got a deformed one or something. but semi-double works too! never seen a double AV before.

Double is ten petals or more. Single is 5 (or 4 sometimes on my confused Pixie Blue..). Semidouble is in between.

That looks like one of the Optimaras but now they have several that photograph a lot alike (pink, pinkish-red, red, etc.) They have those big round green leaves on the newer ones too. Occasionally their descriptions are off also, saying single when their own photos on Facebook show semidouble blossoms. hmm - at first glance the color pattern is the same as Anika, they don't show as a semi on the site -eh no matter. just experimenting with them anyway.

They say Rita is single too but it's semidouble. I think that's who I have here. I figure I'll grow some of these for awhile and if I keep them, I'll worry more about the right name.

I don't know about you guys, but for me, NOIDs /optimaras tend to change / develop more character once I grow them for a while. Plain leaves will start developing texture, or shapes they didn't have before.
I assume it is because the plant is maturing, and doesn't have quite as cozy an environment as it was used to...

The leaves always change for me too. I just figured they weren't in OG (Optimara Greenhouse) any more.
