Fertilizer and buds!!!!

Well I am very excited. I started regularly using fertilizer in my wicking containers,1/2 strength and have been waiting hoping to see flowers. All of my violets are NOIDS some were not in bloom when I bought them so I don't remember some and have never seen the others. The other day while adding water to the containers I noticed that 2 violets had BUDS!!!!! One I remember is purple but the other has never had flowers so it will be a surprise. I am very happy, looks like with all your help I may have things on the right track. So I think I may be ready to order some named violets. I already have a wish list so I am going to start a new phase of my obsession.

it's pretty exciting isn't it? I admit that I bypassed the logical choice - buying a NOID or even a named plant - and when straight to buying leaves. Now that they're planted, I'm fretting and wishing I'd gone your route! I haven't a clue if what I've done is correct and if they will grow. A couple are looking very wilted, but the rest still OK. I do hope they root and put up babies! I wish I had Superman's Xray vision and could see if little roots were forming!

I hope your blooms are gorgeous and that your new phase of obsession is as exciting as this phase has been.

I have them covered by a dome I use for propagating other seedlings. So, while not bagged, they are getting increased humidity from the dome.

Lathyrus,
Give the leaves a little tug to see if they have roots. If they resist, you're on your way.

If they're domed/bagged - they'll be fine. I just leave mine like that for weeks....and then separate them and repot.

I did the little tug - I can't tell! I'm too nervous to tug much. About 4 of them "seem" to resist, but the others clearly move.

I have to water the containers probably every 2-3 days. The soil on the top is clearly dry at that time, though it's just damp under that. I'm just trying to dampen them a bit each time, squirting in a ml or two. I still worry I have them too dry, but it's better than too wet!

Hey Ann,
Another success story! Good going. Just wondering what's on your wish list? Are you going for the big ones or will you try your luck with the smaller verities? I also went through the noid stage. Saw my first mini at Homie Dee's (and that's what I named her) I was star struck. Came home researched, then ventured out and bought 13 minis from same hybridizer. If I had it to do over again I would have bought a few minis from perhaps five different hybridizers just to be able to compare.

Well good luck with your next phase. Next will be lights, action show time!
