I don't remove the mother leaf unless it dies off, ... or until I get ready to separate the new starts.

Cork, like Aegis, I do not remove the mom leaf either. I wait until it dies. Only then I trim off mom.

When my mother leaf refuses to die, for standards I wait until I have about 5 or 6 dime-sized leaves on a single plantlet before I separate them.

When the plantlets reach the transplantable size - I diassemble the pot - and chuck the mother leaf. Sometimes if I want more babies - I will take 2-3 larger plantlets out - and repot the mother leaf with undersize ones back. Mother leaf feeds the plantlets as long as it is alive- so I will not cut it but at some point they are ready to leave on their own - and that's the end of the tired old leaf.

I do the same thing Irina, remove the larger babies and repot the mother leaf with smaller babies in fresh mix and put in bag again.
Cork, I learned not to remove the babies too soon. I wait until there are leaves at least as big as a nickle. And for variegated babies that are mostly white, they can't survive until they green up some.

Yup - you do not touch white babies until they green up - and try to give them fish emulsion - to speed up the process. If mama- leaf dies - they all die..

No rush on anything when it comes to the babies. Leave he momma as long as it doesn't rot. In fact, I usually do not separate (whether because I am lazy or smart, you decide) until one or more of the new plants is in bloom. They usually have great root systems by then and are plenty big enough to go into 2" pots.
