This is too small to separate. Most usually wait until the babies' leaves are easy to handle; about the size of a nickel or bigger. And there is no need to cut any off. Let them get some size and then separate into individual plants.

Michael, go look at the recent post called "How Soon Do You..." That is what we were discussing on that thread, separating babies. Also, just a thought, your soil mix looks way to heavy. I don't see any perlite in it. Even African Violet mix should still have extra perlite added, I use two parts mix to one part perlite.
And yes, those cute babies are way too small to separate. Hope it goes well for you.

o i use miracle grow regular soil the one with mulch in it as u can see all my av are in it im very careful about watering i grow everything in that soil even cacti if i were to lighten it what would u suggest putting into it? or would i have to completely get a new mix i have a large purple violet in the same mix that is flowering, is it that heavy on 1-10 how heavy is to heavy and what is mine

If you are using potting soil try adding perlite in a 1/3 perlite, 2/3 potting soil ratio. There are many soil mix variations but this one should lighten your soil significantly.

Yes, two parts potting soil to one part perlite is a good ratio. I personally use the Miracle Grow African Violet potting mix and add the perlite to it in that ratio. I have good results and it easy for me to find in my area. African Violets like a very light and fast draining soil. I also used this same mix for rooting my leaves. My mix does have fertilzer in it, so I wait a couple of months and then use fertilizer. It says it lasts six months, but I don't think it really lasts that long, so I have been starting the fertilizer after a couple of months. I also use plain water every third or fourth time after I begin the fertilizer.
