Try using a wood burning tool. They
don't cost very much and work well.

I've used an ice pick and a soldering iron to make holes in the plastic cups used as wicking pots and even used a hole punch to make holes in reservoir container lids (although I generally use reservoirs that the pots fit down into for stability).

I started using a drill - just put 10 of Solo cups stack - and drill them all through.

The soldering iron makes much neater holes - but it stinks to high heaven - and is bad for you to inhale.

I kind of getting to the point when I do not rewash condiment cups where I start babies - just toss them - so who cares if I punched the hole with an Xacto knife or tweezers - they are really inexpensive in Costco - plus they start breeaking and cracking soon. Solo cups - I soak in Clorax - it removes not only the dirt - but the name of the plant I write with a Sharpie.
