It would be easier for you to go to www.avsa.org and look up pictures, then B for Buckeye.

These make very nice flat plants with lots of flowers.

I just stumbled upon a site with mostly Buckeye violets on it, though there are also a few from other hybridizers. So, I think I can answer the above question, even though it's a few years old and the person may already know or have moved on.

Buckeyes appear to be the violets hybridized by Pat Hancock. As I learn more, it seems that most hybridizers choose a common first word - like Buckeye, Ma's, Aca, Apache, etc. For each one they create, they add a unique identifier name behind it, such as Bucket My Goodness or Apache Warbonnet.

While that was interesting for me to figure out (brilliant, aren't I?), what was really nice was the encouragement from this hybridizer to join AVSA.

If you join after March 2009 (new member, not renewing), they will send you free leaves - just pay for shipping. Now, isn't that cool? I wasn't sure if I was going to join, but this sort of seals the deal for me. I think they charge extra shipping; comes out to about $17 for shipping for ten leaves, their choice.

Guess I really have to get a cart/stand of some kind now. And hope hubby isn't paying attention.....

I highly recommend Buckeyes! They tend to be relatively easy growers,hearty,good bloomers, and quite beautiful. I hope you post some photos of your plants in the future.

I have only ordered 4 leaves so far and none were Buckeyes in the initial order. I am hoping to contain myself and not go nutty with this. I have, however, selected two or three to try in the future. Glad to hear they are relatively easy growers and good bloomers.
