Need help with leaf cuttings

I purchased a couple leaves on ebay but I haven't had much success getting them to root. I put them in the tiny solo cups with african violet soil, however, i see that a lot of people recommend a perlite/soil mix so I plan on trying that next.

I am very curious as to whether anyone starts rooting the leaves in water? I snagged a leaf from my aunt's african violet and started it in water and it seems to have been very successful. When the roots got to a nice length, green shoots/leaves started to grow so I potted it into the african violet soil at that time and there are lots of small leaves now.

I was wondering if anyone here recommends any online african violet leaf sellers? Or would anyone have a couple varieties that they wouldn't mind sending me a leaf or two so that I can have another try at rooting?

Joey
