BP, I'm new to AVs, but I don't think a month is a very long time to wait between flowering cycles. Some plants flower only a couple of times a year, others flower more often.

One thing that could be affecting it is the size pot it's in. AVs like to be relatively root bound and if the pot is too large, it could be developing its root system instead of developing flowers.

Also, are you fertilizing it? If not, use a balanced fert or a 3-1-2 ratio fert (just read a research article that AVs, like most other plants, prefer a 3-1-2 ratio). If you are using something with a lot of N is could potentially encourage foliage growth and not flowers.

I am sure others will have more ideas than I.

Otherwise - provided your plant has right size pot (1/3 of the leaf span), you keep the soil moist but never wet - do not let the water stand in a saucer), fertilize - I like Peters specialty African Violet food - 1/4 of a teaspoon per gallon of water - you can use it on all your houseplants -they would love it) - you can water with fertilizer 3 times out of 4 - it is a very weak solution.
I agree with Lathyrus about 1 month not being too long. Right now your plant is adjusting to your conditions - they are different from where it was grown, then the shock of trnsportation and who knows how it was taken care in a store.

The main thing - if your plant is happy, has shiny perky leaves etc. it cannot stop itself from blooming. Just take some time.

The first thing I would do would be to remove it from the clay pot abd put it into a plastic squat pot which is about 1/3 the diameter of the crown of your plant. I would use a light mix of 1 part each of peat or pro mix or a potting mix sans fertilizer if you can find it, coarse vermiculite and coarse perlite. I would feed it every time I watered with a standard AV fertilizer at half the strenght recommended by the manufacturer. I would use a fertilizer that didn't contain UREA NITROGEN. Optimara produces it and also dyna-gro. You might want to keep it in a covered container for a week or so and then remove it and grow it in a bright indirect light.
