I don't honestly know. I would expect the wheatgrass to eventually choke out the African violet though.
If I were considering a planter like that, I'd probably put the av, pot and all, into a larger pot, and plant the grass in there, so the roots remain separated. You would probably need good light from straight above....

Interesting... I try it. It seems viable too, because with avs you only need a pot one third of its size. I just wanted to try to add something new to add to my room. Btw, I heard both of these plants tolerate low to medium light don't they?

definitely.. give it a try ...

but the issue i see.. is two plant with divergent water needs ..

in other words.. you might rot the roots off the AV ... while barely being able to keep the grass watered enough ...

i dont really understand your comment ... that an AV only takes up 1/3 of a pot ... or however you meant it ... pot size is a function of happy roots ... a proper balance of media to root mass ..... adding anther plant may not maintain the happiness of the former ...

What Karin and I are saying is that by putting a smaller pot containing the av into another pot growing grass. Therefore, successfully dividing each plant. Even if they have different water needs I'll be able to water them separately.

An AV's pot diameter should be 1/3 the size of the diameter of the AV's foliage.

Karin/David's suggestion to place a smaller pot containing the AV within a larger pot containing the grass seems to be a good approach to this ...

pot in pot.. would make make it real easy ... that way each plant can get what it needs ....

even use a third pot ... that way.. you could switch out AVs every now and them ... meaning leave one in the media ....
