I would call it a Royal Blue. There is no true blue in Avs, there is always a bit of red pigment in them - so there is always a tint of purple.
This one is Optimara, and I do not recall the name.
Since I like vintage violets - the best blue for me is an old Max Maas variety "The King". It is a great show plant, grows well on its own, single to semi-double great deep blue blossoms. I was told that there is another one of his - "Frankie" which is better blue - I got it - and it turned to be much more purple to my regret. There is a Russian variety which I think is available in States - "African Night" - very dark blue - huge single stars.
Out of variegated ones - both "Tiger" and "Tiger's Son" have very nice blues - if you have space to accomodate the X-Large plants, as I recall "Private Dancer" is good too.

Take a look at "Rain Man".

Rain Man looks quite promising in terms of absence of purple.

Also..what's with the Russians and AV-s? ...:-)

Remember Begonia ... there will always be some purple. After all, they're African VIOLETS.

Russian breeders have come up with some very nice AV varieties.
