Terrarium, light and heat????

Karin

i thought i was being smart and bought a small fish tank off of kijijij to put my minis into.
turns out it was a bit smaller than i had expected (8x8x16" wide), but it came with a lid and light fixture... and it was cheap.

what i didn't realize, the light fixture is for two of some funky type "T" bulbs (not pear shaped, but long). a "mini" CFL bulb can be fitted into each side though, so that's what i did. only, they got HOT.

So question(s), really, should i look at replacing the light fixture?
is there a point in putting the plants into a "terrarium" if i have to leave the top open for the heat to escape? and at 5-6" distance from the top of the plants, do i really need 2 CFL bulbs? (i took one out, because it is easier to add light than to fix burned leaves).
I am tempted to just sell the thing and keep an eye out for a bigger tank with hopefully a better light fixture....

thanks,

Karin
