While the genetics of the plant in question can play a role, IME, when rooting an AV crown you are less likely to get pups. The plant's energy is instead directed to forming roots and continuing the growth of the crown. Now the "stump", on the other hand, will produce multiple pups, and the pups produced on the stump will grow far faster than from leaf cuttings. For example:

I have never had a crown rooting produce babies. I do have three necks producing babies as we speak.

Interesting, I'll have to decapitate one sometimes. :-)
As it is, I just sliced the two crowns apart all the way to the root ball, leaving some roots for both plants. They are multiples anyways, so I figured it was ok to experiment.... Had them domed but they fogged up pretty badly, they appear fine out in the open though. I'll see what the next few weeks bring.
