Covering a Plant Stand

Because of the drafts and forced air heat in our very old house, I am enclosing both of my new stands with shower curtains.

The big one was partially enclosed (so it didn't bleach the wall) but I think the hot air register is causing havoc. I just had some powdery mildew on the bottom shelf and things are drying out like crazy. I don't have an alternate location. I am going to leave a gap at the top of this one (it's a 3 shelf tall one). There are 2 T8 shelves and 1 T12, with the T12 in the middle.

I just finished wrapping the smaller one and am wondering if I should create some means of ventilation so the heat can escape. This one is much shorter so I'm not sure it would be as safe from the drafts at the top. It also has T12s, which run fairly warm (2-24" shelves). Any suggestions would be appreciated. There's no heat near it but it's near a hall and the kitchen temperature fluctuates a lot because of a large window.

My only idea is to chop holes and I wanted a second opinion before I do that!

Much thanks.
