While these are symptoms of broad mites, it might also be something else.

Light: How many hours per day are your violets getting? Are they about 10-12 inches from the light bulb?

How much fertilizer are you giving?

Other symptoms of mite are excessively hairy leaves, stunting or curling of leaf stems. Do you have these symptoms.

You could take a plant or two to your botanical garden or agricultural station to be verified. You could purchase a 30 Power jeweler's loupe and see these insects if they are there.

I don't have the hairy leaves or deformed stems. So, do you think it could be too much light or too much fertilizer, or not enough?

The first thing I though of when I read your messages was either too much light or too much fertilizer. Try flushing the plant with clear water to remove some of the residue fertilizer and cut back your lights. I grow mine on stands and have the fixtures on for 10 hours per day.

I've had this same problem a couple of times now. I cut back on both light and fertilizer and the plants straightened right around. I grow in the window, and under lights. Sometimes it gets a little crazy as certain plants prefer natural light, some florescent, and the natural light changes with the seasons. Growing av's is a lot of trial and error, and learning from experience--yours and that of experienced growers. Nancy and Fred are two of the best! :-)

I have the same problem. I have mine under lights for 10 hours a day. They are 10 inches from the light. I moved them to the basement this summer because I needed the room upstairs. They were fine all summer. The lights are the same as they were upstairs. I can't see any sign of bugs. Maybe it is the fertilizer. I brought a few upstairs just to see if this corrects the problem. We shall see in a few weeks.
