I swear I responded to this yesterday, but I don't see it.

I use a modified texas style for growing. I use the Dixie cups with a wick, a layer of perlite wick laying on top of perlite, then add potting mix. I mat water. I have had some trouble with crown rot though. I contribute this to the mix I am using. My husband won't let me sterilize in our oven so I have resorted to using Miracle Grow AV mix with added perlite, currently 1:1. I think I am going to up the perlite to 1:2 to try to eliminate the crown rot.

What I don't like about the Oyama pots, other than it is way more time consuming to water each individual pot, you can't see how much water is in them. It is way to easy for a pot to dry out because you don't have a visual reminder.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to say that oddly enough, the one that looks the best is one that is planted in a plain old ceramic pot in an East facing window. No fancy wicks or lights. I forget to water it most of the time and it drys out most of the way between waterings and doesn't seem to mind. Go figure.... :-)
