I have a similar setup for my tropicals, though I believe the spectrum on the daylight bulbs is a bit better... (I hijacked mine from DH's photography setup)
My av's currently reside inside an aerogarden (minus the hydroponic bits), which is on the same timer. The bulbs are a bit old, so I have them a touch closer than recommended...

If the wattage is too low you'll notice, and can move the light closer. But I guess it's better to err on the safe side and not scorch your plants.

16h may be a bit much for AVs - mine are set to 14h, but I've read 12 to be recommended....
Anyways, I'm sure the pros will chime in soon :-)

I agree with Karin, 16 hours is too much. Start at 12 and see how your plants respond. The idea is to emulate the natural conditions of the AV's native habitat. They are from near the equator with nearly identical day and night length hours.
Plants also need darkness to carry on many necessary growth processes.

I've got to take a photo of my beauties. One in particular I found at a garage sale at the main entrance. Girl crinkled varigated leaves with rich dark blue flowers.

Those are the basics that most of us adhere to. You may have to tweak it here and there but you're starting out fine.

Should be just right. I think the lights become more and more efficient - in comparison with 40W 20 years ago - probably 32W nowdays produces more light and less heat.

The lights I use consume 15 watts but output 40 watts, very energy efficient.
