The diaper would restrict the natural 'system' of a successfully working soil/root system, widower. All- important capillary channels within the soil system allow for the movement of water (up and down), air exchange (up and down), etc. If you wish to conserve water in your garden, use a plentiful layer of organic mulch on TOP of the soil.

I also don't think that the essential microorganisms would like that icky diaper stuff, to say nothing about earthworms! I expect that it would even restrict root development, as well. The more you learn about the workings of a good soil/root system, the less you want to mess with it.

Some people, however, have been known to use diapers in the bottom of their CONTAINERS to keep the water in longer, avoiding that ever-so-pesky WATERING routine, lol.

Thanks for the response. It is as I said I have an unlimited amount of leaves. I have fourty five blueberry bushes and have put about six to eight inches of leaves around all of them. I guess natural things such as leaves pine straw old sawdust and such is much better than man made to hold in moisture.
It does not cost anything to friendly but the rewards are awesome.
