My creeping fig did the same thing during the recent cold spell.

It's commonly listed as cold-hardy to zone 8, sometimes zone 7. I think if it's established well enough you won't have to worry about it filling in very quickly next spring, and the retaining wall should absorb enough heat during the day to help protect the roots.

I second that! Ours will get burned back every winter if its really cold. We just prune off the dead and it comes back really nice in the spring.

Same here in B'ham. Have had creeping fig on a wooden privacy fence for about five years. Every winter we have had has killed it back but has come back in the spring.

Hi All!! I have a wonderful creeping fig along a 30ft. wooden fence and it looks great. Last week my gardener came by and trimmed it (as usual) and there appeared many brown patches!! I see other people get them in winter but we are in So. CA. and it's summer!!!
