Ever see the flower of Cast Iron plant?

This was posted on another board I frequent, & I found it quite fascinating. I've been growing Aspidistra elatior for years, and it never occurred to me that I've never seen one bloom. Now I know why.

I've seen them many times, when I lived in Beaufort, SC, where Aspidistra was so common. Another reason why we overlook them is that they emerge right at the soil level, and are typically covered by mulch and soil. Very different, that's for sure.

rhizo, when do they typically bloom, in the spring? I'll have to watch mine a little more closely, I guess.

John, I'm not entirely sure that they have a specific time of year that they produce flowers. Seems like I remember something about the flowers appearing off and on throughout the growing season. I'd look for them anytime after warm temperatures begin in earnest.
