My husband bought me one of these for my birthday. I was wondering what you experts could tell me about this tree. The tag says it grows to 100 feet and width of 50 feet, so I was mildly horrified when I got home and saw how close he planted it to our fence line....about 10 to 15 feet.

This is one of my favorite shade trees. I can promise you that the size estimation on the tag is WAAAAAYYYY off. As it matures, it will begin gaining 'weight' and 'girth' (sound familiar?), and will slow down the upward growth. 'Drake' is a cultivar of the Ulmus parvifolia that terramadre has indicated in her link.

It will certainly grow well over the fence line, which could be a problem in the future....depending upon neighbors' appreciation for beautiful trees overhanging their lawn.

Your tree will never reach the height estimated on the tag. More like 50x50.
