Rae, I live in Prattville on the ouskirts off HWY 31. I grow toadlilies. I have them planted where they get moring sun, filtered from about 10 to 2 and complete shade the rest of the day. I have them planted under my Japanese maple where in the fall the leaves mulch them. They do fine and are coming up now.

one other observation i have to go along with lynn's is that they seem to take a few years to settle in before they begin to multiply. i am growing two different ones that were grown locally and shared by fellow gardeners. they both were taken from their expanding populations and did not do much when i transplanted them until a couple of years later. now, the spreading nature is apparent and i hope to see more flowers this season.
i am in the auburn area and may be a tad cooler than montgomery by virtue of elevation but still consider my area a zone 8 (on the divide, so to speak).

Here in Huntsville zone 7 they are real "doers".

Also in zone 7 here, but they are fabulous even in the beds that don't get supplemental watering.

Zone 7b here. I have some from Michigan Bulb that are entering their third season. The did fine the first year, and were great last year. They are all still mashed together in the same pot I started them in, so I'm suprised they're still alive, but they are coming up now.

Those are such odd looking plants got to have them. I love plants that look different but still pretty.
