The HB showed up right on schedule, March 28. I hang out a feeder about a week prior to this date. The HB has been visiting each day. When I see more than one bird, I hang out more feeders.
The location is East Central AL, Jacksonville, Calhoun County.

Thanks for sharing this picture! I almost put my feeder up this weekend and changed my mind... Now it's going up for sure.

Lovely photo!

One of mine went out yesterday. As soon as I see sign of hummingbirds I'll rearrange the bird stuff out back and put the other one out.

Thanks for the info ! I got on GW today to see if any reports. I almost put mine up last weekend. However I did clean my feeders last week in preparation. I am B'ham so they should be coming through here too.

great photo!
saw the first one saturday and put out a feeder. at least 2 are feeding from it this week in lee county.
surprisingly, i first saw them around the 'salmon bells' azaleas rather than the red buckeyes which are also blooming now.

Good article. Are they from Clay County or City of Clay in Jefferson County ?By the way, put one feeder up this evening.

bamatufa,
One article mentioned Clay north of Birmingham.

Last year's "pile up" at the feeders;-)

Just saw my first visitor.

RE: Hummers

I haven't seen anyone yet, but my feeder has dropped more than I'd expect strictly from evaporation two days in a row.

I absolutely love hummingbirds. Our back yard is swarming with them, 10-20 of the sweet little fellas at least. I love them so much that I have one tattooed on me, he is about 8 inches across and he is a ruby throat.
thanks for sharing your photos, I wish I was skilled enough at photography to capture pics of them.

edit to add: just saw this is the AL forum... I saw the word hummingbird and clicked :)

They are hitting my feeders regularly now, but not heavily. All males so far. They may just be passing through but I heard one chattering today, so maybe one has decided he likes the hospitality.

RE: Hummers

I got my feeders out over a week ago and finally saw them this past weekend. At least 3, all male. I kinda thought they were feeding but since I'm not home during the day I wasn't sure. DH said he thought he saw some fly by a few days after I put them out. It seems like all the birds are nesting late this year. Even the chickadees and bluebirds.
