Rising full moon

At sunset on Friday evening, look in the Eastern sky for a big, beautiful rising full moon. Reported to be quite a sight this year.

RE: Rising full moon

That's because the moon will be the closest it's been to the earth in 18 years -- "just" 31,069 miles! It was really beautiful the last time around.

RE: Rising full moon

OMG, I mean SATURDAY at at sunset!! Sorry, folks.

RE: Rising full moon

We can enjoy it both nights. It's full now and will be pretty tonight. It just won't be quite as close to the earth as tomorrow night.

RE: Rising full moon

The moon will still be about 211,566 miles from Earth, not 31,069. Our geostationary satellites orbit at 22,236 miles.

Got some great photos last night and I'm hoping to get some more tonight. Maybe it won't be too cloudy to see.

RE: Rising full moon

What a sight! Robert and I had actually forgotten about it (I'm hopeless), but were finishing up some ribs on the grill for a late supper when BINGO, the moon rose above the tree line. Even though the horizon is obscured by the trees, and we could only see the moon after it had been in the sky for a while, it was still beautiful, big, brilliant!
