looks like a pyracantha to me. search for images of pyracantha coccinea.
are there thorns on the stems? did it have orange/red berries last fall and winter? those traits would be typical for pyracantha, a.k.a. firethorn.
if it is this plant, they are not native but popular as ornamentals because of the showy fruit display and tough nature of the shrubs. i have seen them escape into wild areas along roadbanks and fields.

I agree it does look like Pyracantha. It's kinda hard to tell from pictures though. It also kind of looks like a type of Virburnum which escapes me right now.

But if it has those thorns, it is definately a Pyracantha!
Now that I took a second look, I am leaning more toward the Pyracantha because of the leaf shape.
