Is it too late to plant my yams?

I seen some sweet potatoes plants at the local store and I bought them. Yes, I shouldn't but I really like them and I told my daughter I would give them a try.

This is my first year gardening here and I have been outside working my ground for days now (I am a one woman show at this and I am very slow..) I have TONS of little rocks in my soil so I am thinking my yams wont do so well (I keep picking them out but I swear every time I pick one out I seen 10 more.)

I thought about doing them like I have my other potaotes (in bags so I don't have to dig them out) but I haven't a clue if they would grow well like that.

Any tips on this would be so nice. I am at lost with this one.

Not at all!

In fact, anytime earlier might have caused a problem due to all the late frosts and abnormally cool weather.
