Cayene pepper works for squirrels but you have to reapply after rain, so I guess it would work to chase away chipmunks. The cats have reduced their numbers in my yard, much to my horror. There are commercial sprays that smell bad to them but smell good to us. If they have babies in the space you may have to wait till they grow up.

What are they doing that is bothersome?

I can vouch for the Cayenne pepper powder to deter their digging and causing a mess with plants. You can purchase big canisters at the big box stores, and probably any grocery store (considering we live in the South!).

Poisoning chipmunks is not illegal in AL and you can get the wherewithall at most of the big box stores. That said, you might want to try the pepper first. Our cat and dogs keep ours to a dull roar so that they're not a real problem. Let us know if you figure out a solution that works.

If you don't want to kill them you may be able to trap them. If you are considering killing them, be careful with poison. It's an indiscriminant killer.

I'd suggest a pellet rifle unless you have nosey neighbors who will call the law.

Go to an independent hardware store, not one of the big box stores. They will carry the right stuff to get rid of them.
